THE BRIEF:
We were approached by Surface ID to enhance the pool and leisure facilities at the prestigious five-star Isle of Eriska resort. The goal was to create a visually stunning, nature-inspired space that complements the tranquil atmosphere of the resort’s pool area. Given the pool environment’s high humidity and the desire for minimal maintenance, a durable and attractive solution was required.
THE SOLUTION:
Artificial Greenwall (24m²):
We designed and installed a bespoke artificial greenwall to evoke the feel of a lush woodland environment. Using a combination of vines, branches, and a vibrant mix of trailing foliage, the greenwall creates the appearance of greenery “growing” naturally from the floor upwards. The result is a captivating feature wall that brings the outdoors in, while maintaining a pristine look all year round.
Hanging Planters (25 units, 29/10cm):
A striking display of 25 hanging planters was suspended from the ceiling at varying heights to create a layered, dynamic visual effect in front of the pool windows. Each planter was filled with a variety of UV-rated, artificial trailing plants, which provide a splash of greenery without the upkeep required by real plants in a humid pool environment. The cascading plants help soften the space and add a visually engaging element to the otherwise modern design.
Floorstanding Planters (9 large, 8 medium):
We installed a total of 17 floorstanding planters in both large (44/43cm) and medium (32/32cm) sizes. These planters were handmade using durable Fiberclay, a lightweight material with a natural stone-effect finish in washed black. Each planter was filled with mixed-height artificial plants, providing a striking focal point either individually or in pairs. The floor planters were finished with bark chips, giving the display a realistic and polished appearance.
Why Artificial Plants?
In environments such as pools and leisure areas, the conditions—high humidity, chlorinated air, and fluctuating temperatures—can be particularly harsh on real plants. Artificial plants provide an ideal solution, maintaining a lush, vibrant appearance without the need for constant watering, pruning, or replacement. The UV-rated plants used in this installation ensure that the displays will not fade or deteriorate over time, despite exposure to sunlight and humidity. This makes artificial plants both a practical and aesthetic choice for the Isle of Eriska’s pool area, offering low-maintenance beauty that aligns perfectly with the resort’s luxury standards.
THE RESULTS:
The Isle of Eriska’s pool area was transformed into a tranquil, nature-inspired retreat. The combination of green walls, hanging planters, and floorstanding displays has elevated the space into a serene, visually captivating environment. The artificial plants have successfully introduced the calming presence of greenery without the need for ongoing care, contributing to an atmosphere of relaxation and luxury.
